I. ADULT & JUNIOR TOURNAMENT RANKING RULES

OVERVIEWThe Nebraska Tennis Association ("NTA") uses a Points Per Round Ranking System ("PPR") to annually rank adult players and publish Annual Standing Lists by division. A player earns ranking points by winning singles and/or doubles matches in USTA sanctioned tournaments held in the Nebraska District ("Sanctioned Tournaments") for each ranking year. The ranking year shall be January 1st through December 31st (the "Ranking Year").

NEBRASKA DISTRICT. The Nebraska District is comprised of the State of Nebraska and Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

METROPOLITAN AREAS. The Metropolitan Areas in the Nebraska District include Omaha and Lincoln. The Omaha Metropolitan Area includes Douglas and Sarpy counties. The Lincoln Metropolitan Area includes Lancaster county. 

NTA RANKING COMMITTEE. The NTA Ranking Committee shall be responsible for the (i) review and calculation of match results obtained from Sanctioned Tournaments; (ii) production and publication of the Annual Standings List; and (iii) review and revision of the Nebraska District's Junior and Adult Ranking Rules. Any and all ranking determinations made by the NTA Ranking Committee in order to produce the Annual Standing Lists, shall be made in accordance with the NTA's Adult Ranking Rules, except those certain ranking determinations made by the NTA Ranking Committee in its discretion, from time to time. The Nebraska District's Junior and Adult Ranking Rules are subject to change by the NTA Ranking Committee at any time during the Ranking Year.

MATCH FORMAT. The results from matches played in Sanctioned Tournaments must meet the following format criteria to be considered for ranking: 1.     Best of three tie-break sets; 2.     Best of three tie-break sets with a Match Tie-Break in lieu of the deciding final set; 3.     For Boys' and Girls' 10 and 12 Divisions only; the formats listed above can be best of three short sets, or the best of three short sets with a Match Tie-Break in lieu of the deciding final set; or 4.     For Doubles only the formats described above and the best of three short sets, the best of three short sets with a Match Tie-Break in lieu of the deciding final set, and 8-game pro sets.

ELIGIBILITY FOR RANKING. A player shall be eligible for ranking in the Nebraska District if the player (i) has a valid USTA membership; (ii) has been a resident of the Nebraska District for at least thirty (30) days during the ranking year; and (iii) meets the age, gender and/or NTRP rating requirements for the division entered by that player.

II.  ADULT TOURNAMENT RANKING RULES

ADULT TOURNAMENT DIVISIONS. The results from matches played in Sanctioned Tournaments shall only be considered for ranking in the division for which the player entered. 

TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS. An eligible player shall be included on the Nebraska District’s Annual Standing Lists if he/she meets the minimum tournament participation requirements, as follows: 1.     A player must play in at least three Sanctioned Tournaments in singles for a singles ranking and two sanctioned doubles tournaments for a doubles ranking (Players do not have to play with the same doubles partner to receive a doubles ranking).  At least one event must be outside the players' Metropolitan Area; and 2.     A player who fails to play to completion a tournament for a reason other than illness, injury, or personal emergency shall not (i) receive credit toward the minimum tournament participation requirement and (ii) receive points for the event. 3.     Annual ranking will be calculated based on a player's five Best Tournaments played within the Nebraska District during the Ranking Year (i.e. A player plays 10 Sanctioned Tournaments, the PPR System will take that player's five best tournament results based on how he or she finishes in a draw).  There will be two levels of tournaments.  Level 1 tournaments are the Nebraska Adult Closed and Sectional events held within the Nebraska District.  Level 2 Tournaments are all other NTA Tournaments.

WAIVER OF TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTSSection 1 of theTournament Participation Requirements may be waived if the following occurs:

1.     In divisions in which fewer than five tournaments are held, the ranking committee may reduce the number of tournaments that must be played in order to qualify for ranking;

2.     In divisions in which fewer than five tournaments are held, the Ranking Committee may waive the requirement of playing a tournament outside a Metropolitan Area, as set forth in Section 1 of the Tournament Participation Requirements; or

3.     In divisions in which there are fewer than 3 players that have met the requirements set forth in Section 1 of the Tournament Participation Requirements, then the NTA Ranking Committee may (i) waive the requirement of playing a tournament outside a Metropolitan Area; or (ii) waive said Section 1 in its entirety if there remains fewer than 3 players that have met the Tournament Participation Requirements after the Ranking Committee implements the waiver set forth in Item (i) above. If the NTA Ranking Committee implements any or all of the waivers set forth in Section 2 of the Waiver of Tournament Participation Requirements Section, then the Annual Standing List for that division shall be calculated by total points for those tournament(s) played.

ADULT PPR RANKING SYSTEM.  In this system a player receives a set amount of points in each tournament that he/she participates in according to the highest level of the draw that the player attains. PPR Regulations are: 1.     A player must win a round to receive any points for the tournament.  Byes do not qualify as wins;

2.     Withdrawals and walkovers qualify as wins for the advancing player and earn PPR;

3.     Retirements qualify as wins for the advancing player and earn PPR;

4.     A player who is defaulted from a tournament for code violations under the PPS or misconduct forfeits any points accumulated during the tournament;

5.     Annual ranking will be calculated based on a player's three best tournaments played within the Nebraska District during the Ranking Year (i.e. a player plays 10 USTA sanctioned tournaments within Nebraska, the PPR System will take that player's three best tournament results based on how he or she finishes in a draw.) The Nebraska Adult Closed tournament and any Sectional Event held in the Nebraska District will be a level 1 event, all other tournaments will be classified as level 2 events.  A level 1 event receives double the points of a level 2 event; and

6.     At the end of the ranking year, a Standing List will be produced based on the player's three Best Tournaments.  This Standing List will become the final rankings for the previous year.  

III. JUNIOR TOURNAMENT RANKING RULES

JUNIOR PPR RANKING SYSTEM (BOYS/GIRLS 10, 12, 14, 16 AND 18 AGE DIVISIONS).  In this System, a player receives a set amount of points in each tournament that he/she participates in according to the highest level of the draw that the player attains. All sanctioned events to include endorsement tournaments in the Nebraska District will use the most recent Missouri Valley Standings (combine doubles and singles) list to base seeding on. The Missouri Valley Standings list will be used instead of the Missouri Valley Nebraska Standings list for more accuracy.  All Sanctioned Tournaments are required to use auto seeding, unless no information is provided from that process.  The regulations for PPR are:

1.     A player must win a round to receive any points for the tournament.  Byes do not qualify as wins;

2.     Withdrawals and walkovers qualify as wins for the advancing player and earn PPR.

3.     Retirements qualify as wins for the advancing player and earn PPR;

4.     A player who is defaulted from a tournament for code violations under the PPS or misconduct forfeits any points accumulated during the tournament;

5.     Annual ranking will be calculated based on a player's five Best Tournaments played within the Nebraska District during the Ranking Year (i.e. A player plays 10 Sanctioned Tournaments, the PPR System will take that player's five best tournament results based on how he or she finishes in a draw).  There will be two levels of tournaments.  Level 1 tournaments are the Endorsements and Sectional events held within the Nebraska District and Team Events.  Level 2 Tournaments are all other NTA Tournaments;

6.     At the end of the Ranking Year, a Standing List will be produced based on the player's five Best Tournaments;

7.     To obtain a Nebraska State Singles Ranking, a player must participate in a minimum of three tournaments in the same age division and event to be eligible.  One of the tournaments must be located in Area 1 and one must be located in Area 2.  Area 1 is all of the Nebraska District, except for the Metropolitan Areas; 

8.     To obtain a Nebraska State Doubles Ranking, a player must play in at least 2 sanctioned tournaments within one age group, one in Area 1 (all tournaments held outside the Metropolitan Areas) and one in Area 2 (tournaments held within the Metropolitan Areas).  A player may play in as many tournaments as they wish, points for ranking will be given to the top five tournaments, within an age division, they finish in by points, they will only get a ranking by playing in at least one tournament from each of the 2 areas.  Players are not required to play with the same partner in order to obtain a ranking.  Doubles Rankings are by individuals, not teams; and

  9.     A player who fails to play to completion a tournament for a reason other than illness, injury, or personal emergency shall not (i) receive credit toward the minimum tournament participation requirement and (ii) receive points for the event.

AGE DIVISION 10 RANKING REGULATIONS:  The Regulations for the 10's Age Division are as follows:

1.     Tournament participation requirement is that a player must play in two USTA sanctioned or NTA authorized events, unless fewer than five events are offered during the year, then the NTA Ranking Committee may determine to use one tournament for ranking criteria;

2.     Results considered for ranking are from Sanctioned Tournaments and from Nebraska authorized events; and

3.     Doubles tournament participation requirement is that the team must compete in the same division in two tournaments in the Nebraska District.
